Random (and irregular) ramblings of a mildly scatterbrained artist...!

March 9, 2018

Well, my first big new adventure in Dorset has started! I am now part of the Purbeck Artisan Yard, which is handily situated just down the road from my new home in Wareham. It is a big, rustic converted barn space which is brimming with beautiful locally made art, crafts, furniture and gifts.. there are cushions and candles, prints and paintings... glass, pottery, sculpture, vintage furniture and clothes... I have seen something I'd like to take home every...

It's 2018! I wonder how many times I am going to have to cross out 2017 this week when I get the date wrong...

'New year, new me'- one of the most over used, under achieved phrases ever! Here at JinKs it's 'New year, new house!' We have moved to Dorset, one whole county away from our Exmoor idyll. We are in the Purbeck area which is another area of outstanding natural beauty, so I'm not too worried about missing mother nature- plus we can walk to the pub fr...

Just thought I would write a little post about our recent trip to Cornwall! As J and I are both self- employed, it is very hard to manage to find a day that we both have off, so when we realised that if we each just cancelled one thing, we had four whole days, we thought we should take advantage!

One of the wonderful things about where we live on the edge of Exmoor, is how easy it is to visit some of the most beautiful spots in England (in my opinion!). So w...

As those of you who follow me on Facebook and or Instagram will know... I was in London last week! After much deliberation back in February, I decided to take a big risk (and big investment) and go to Country Living Magazine's Spring Fair at Alexandra Palace.

It was a big step up for me from the little village craft fairs and farmers' markets that I usually attend with my artwork and kept me awake for more than a few hours in the lead up to the end of April....

Exciting news! One of my goals this year was to have my work stocked in 5 small retailers. After doing lots of research, I thought this might have to change, as most places take such a huge percentage that I would end up making next to nothing, which, when you sell limited edition work (of sometimes only 10 prints) really isn't a good idea..

But! The good old market scene has yet again unexpectedly come through with some magic. At my first EVER market, last...

I've decided! Well.. I decided in January.. that I am going to start writing on the blog more regularly! Obviously that hasn't happened but hopefully now I will be able to update more often at least.

Something interesting has happened this week- looking at the art page of a fellow artist/ illustrator who I vaguely know through a friend, I saw a painting that they had commissioned my boyfriend to do. (He is also arty, and although he doesn't make a living fro...

I love going to markets... walking impossibly slowly in no particular direction, feasting your eyes on a wide weird range of items you didn't know you needed until now, eating a few more free titbits of the gourmet food stalls than is polite, and finding the perfect gift for someone who's always hard to buy for.

I did my second market of the year yesterday, and as a stallholder, it's quite a different experience. I still love looking around at what eve...

Well, maybe that should say 'Veggan' actually.

For the whole of October I gave up meat, (all meat, including all seafood, including the fact that they use anchovies to make a lot of sauces!) and dairy, but I didn't give up eggs.

Firstly because it seemed a little too overwhelming to go cold turkey ('scuse the pun), but mainly because I don't agree with the fact that Vegans don't eat eggs: they are produced naturally every day by chickens, so eating them is...

What is JinKs!?

I've finally updated my site and am hoping to get the 'shop' live in the next month or so. But I thought for now, I'd say a little bit about who I am and what is JinKs.. so here you go! 'About me'...

I live in Bristol and nothing makes me happier than when someone comes to me with a crazy idea for a commission... I've done fairytales, invented family crests, building portraits and created a 'light-bursting egg' logo for a theatre company! Wh...

Whenever I'm working, I try to keep my ink nibs fairly clean as india ink builds up over time and ruins them. I dip them in water and wipe them off, and every time I dip into a clean jar of water I'm mesmerised by the beauty of the ink unfurling and curling out through the water. Something so beautiful being created as a by product of drawing another piece of art, deserves to be art itself. So I created a photo series, and this accompanying video. Have a wa...
